Local Historian John Boston said that the 38'x22' Great Room was built before anything else in the area, and was used by Gene Autry's ranch hands as a bunkhouse first, and later as a Boys' Club. Later it was said to be the inspiration for the bunkhouse on the TV series 'Rawhide'. This great room is a lot like the dining hall in the Ahwahnee Lodge in Yosemite, with soaring beamed ceilings and a massive fireplace with lots of cubbies and an included 72" TV. Most of the wood used for the Great Room bookcases, cabinets and bar is recycled, so the grain is very close and tight, contributing to the warmth of the room.
The 16'x30' kitchen was remodeled with custom (and very unique) cabinetry, with handles and drawer pulls hand made from manzanita branches and iron. This is truly a cook's kitchen, with a heavy-duty 6-burner-plus-griddle Viking range, 2 ovens, and SubZero fridge and freezer. The large center island serves as an extra workspace with a second sink and a beautiful skylight above. The designer/contractor was so thrilled with this design that he showed the photos to his client Olivia Newton John, and she reportedly copied the design in her Malibu home. This theme was carried into the built-in units in the office and living room as well.
For the horse owner, the barn can accomodate 6 stalls but is currently set up for 3. There are lights and outlets in several places, and available water (city and well). Trucks can back into the barn with ease for hay and feed delivery.
The horse arena was re-graded with new sand in 2008 and is large enough for a good turn-out as well as riding at all gaits. It includes lights for night work, with one on the tack room, and one on a pole. There are two Priefert gates that can be opened from horseback, with openings large enough for truck and trailer to drive through one side and out the other. There is also a large tack room with electricity that can be used as an office.
In addition, there is a horse 'playground' with a 50' round pen for riding or liberty work, a u-shaped berm with small bank jump and plenty of logs for obstacles and trot poles. The owners have held 'play days' on the property with as many as 16 horse and rider teams with plenty to do for everyone.
